When my own nervous system started to collapse, the hardest part wasn’t the overwhelm itself.
It was the way it quietly seeped into everything around me — my sleep, my emotional steadiness, my relationships, and my sense of self.
Stress didn’t look like “stress.”
It looked like:
shutting down or getting fired up in moments that mattered
feeling tense or on edge without understanding why
waking through the night and struggling to fall back asleep
disconnecting from myself or the people I loved
being calm one moment and reactive the next
It was confusing, because I considered myself capable, resilient, and emotionally aware.
Yet my system was doing something completely different from what I thought I was doing.
What I eventually learned is that stress doesn’t begin in your mind.
It begins in your body.
Your nervous system reacts first — before your thoughts, before your reasoning, before your intentions.
Your emotions, decisions, communication, and relationships all follow that initial response.
Understanding this was the turning point in my own recovery.
And it’s now at the heart of the work I do today.
Because once you understand what your system is reacting to —

And when things make sense, they can finally begin to shift.
